What doesn't kill you makes you stronger. I was in the fandom when it was the dankest edgiest thing around, then the Tumblr nation attacked. I've become one with their salt and it is my sword and shield on the BB battlefield. Join the poni side and you will become more powerful than you could ever imagine.
Dead serious here, keep it coming. It's all fun hiding inside walls of irony until one day you realize there's nothing left of your actual you, and you're just another normie wannabe edgelord who accepts everything the internet throws at them at face value as long as it's "SELF-AWARE AND IRON-IC XXDDDDDD". It's a great way to gain easy "friends" by not committing yourself to anything beyond the basic hivemind. This paragraph isn't so much targeted at AbsoluteZero but at anyone who buys wholeheartedly into cringe culture; you've got to stop your typing for a few seconds and actually wonder what you're doing to yourselves when the only thing considered universally acceptable and not cringey is referencing how you're actually dying inside.
(Possible replies: "You're really salty, Flutter," "You keep getting cringier," "Nothing prompted that," "k," "idc," "kys," "[insert unoriginal edgy reply here]". Being self aware is easy: I realize nothing I say will have any effect on anyone.)
Fluttershy while I do kinda cringe at MLP, I mostly cringe at people openly talking about more so than people watching it. We all have things we do that are considered weird so I really don't judge all that much. However, I tend not to talk about my weird pasttimes so I cringe when other people do.
That being said, since I am currently on a Battle Bears website, everything we say and do here would be considered cringey by many. As such the mlp stuff is not bothering me. What was cringey in this case was the wording of your post not the actual content being discussed.
I know we've never known eachother very well but we have gotten along well which is why I figure you can take flak from me. I have my fair share of weirdness believe me lol. If it really upsets you I can stop making fun of you but I'm not intending to hurt your feelings or anything of the sort :)
Hat being said, your response to me actually has a lot of merit. It is true that trying to fit in with everyone generally makes people a tid boring and can lead to the adoption of plenty of bad habits. The thing is though is that I generally hide my weirdness from people, mainly because I don't want people to exclude me based off of it. I don't have to be their friends, but I don't want them to dislike me for my hobbies/interests either. My real friends are people who can accept my weirdness, most other people I still try to keep as peers.
Your post tells me that you probably have a good outlook on life. It's an awful shame this place is dying cause this place used to have plenty of people like you. It's funny because even though we've both been here for a long time now, we've somehow managed to avoid eachother most of the time. But now we're some of the only people left lol
Whoa, I'm actually really happy to see a really thoughtful and heartfelt post come out of this as opposed to a flame war! :D 2000% respect for you, Zero, and an ounce of faith in the internet as a whole restored! No offense at all dude, generally it's my habit to spit out whatever comes to mind be it cringey roleplay, dank memes, or serious talk, since like you've said the forums are on their decline and there's really nothing to lose lol. For the record I can't stand furries, but I know some really cool people who are, so I suck it up for their sake since I get enough abuse for being a pony fan, and it sounds to me like you do the same, Zero! We gotta chat more often!
Not hurt a bit, don't worry about it bro! Once again, this was my aggregated feelings and thoughts of the past 10 years watching millenials grow up, become jaded, and ditch the carefree CD-i YTP days where we didn't judge each other so harshly, and backlash began against SJWs and fandom minorities in the form of cringe culture. I love me a good cringe as much as the next dude on these forums, but you're totally right in saying that it's a fine line to draw and sometimes it's better to just not say anything and move on. If what they're doing actually is morally wrong, they'll probably re-examine their lives at some point or another and will hopefully come to their senses without you eventually feeling the guilt of anonymously driving them deeper. :)
It's hard being a teenager haha. Espeically when you're a weird one :) But it's extremely frustrating how petty and judgemental so many people are at the high school level. I graduate in about a month and I can't wait to get out. Ofc some people will be just the same in college, but for the most part normal people aren't as snide as your average high schooler. I will say that in general, I do think it is wise to stay away from hobbies or pasttimes that will lend you a lot of criticism, but once you've already got them it's nothing too unusual. Going forwards I wouldn't recommend to my friends to get into pokemon like i am, because I know it's something people would make fun of me for (if they knew lol). and if I were them I would consider adopting a more normalized interest instead. I also follow baseball fairly actively And while I've never really played it, it does give me something to do and talk about fairly often once the season starts. I would say to find a pasttime like that, but there's no need to be truly ashamed of watching mlp. Yeah, it's weird. I don't understand it. But people who can't like you because you watch mlp are hardly worth spending lots of time with. To be honest, I will likely make fun of you for watching mlp going forward unless you explicitly ask me not to. But I do this with the understanding that I could also be made fun of for things that I do and say, and with the belief that you won't be hurt when i do it. It's fairly lighthearted and I don't think any less of you because of what shows you choose to watch. Seriously if you are looking for things to make fun of me for just read my old forum posts there's plenty of material to be found.
On another note, the world actually has plenty of really weird people we just usually don't know many of them. Plenty of support in this community on that sort of thing. If anybody reading this feels overwhelmed regarding thse kinds of topics there are people to reach out to here.
And also, bro, did you really think I was genuinely being mean? Lol I know I have the potential to be a jerk at times but not in a situation like that. I would certainly not seriously say such things with the intent to hurt. Seems my cold demeanor causes people to assume I'm being very critical all the time. But then again, it is somewhat impossible to convey tone of voice on the internet so maybe that's something I should keep in mind going forward.
